Rather, the employee may be forced to work twice as many hours in the week, yet be paid the same salary wage. However, an employee can only be classified as a supervisor or manager if at least 51 percent of working hours are spent performing management duties. If the majority of job duties are similar to the duties of hourly workers, then the employee should be classified as an hourly paid employee — subject to being paid overtime wages.
